Time-saving Tips from Your Instructor

Here are some helpful tips:

  1. Involve your family/friends. Let them know you have registered for school and need time to complete your assignments.
  2. Set time aside every day to sign in and complete coursework (include study time). Make a schedule and stick to it. Early mornings before everyone is awake, while you are at your clearest thinking, and the business of the day hasn’t taken over yet can be most effective.
  3. Find a comfortable area to work in and make it your own. Have pictures that motivate you and remind yourself why you are going to complete this program.
  4. If you are unable to concentrate at home, leave! Find other options: Library or an area with free Internet access.
  5. Flash cards: Make them and use them. They are easy to take along with you. TIP: Have your kids read the flashcards back to you. So they can learn too!
  6. Study on the go! Look for other opportunities to study. Print material or take the book with you. TIP: Read your book or flashcards when your kids have practice or when you have a long wait somewhere!
  7. Study only what you DO NOT KNOW. Avoid wasting time on material if you know it.
  8. Know your schedule ahead of time. If you know you have a previously commitment, be flexible and adjust your schedule.
  9. Keep in mind: We take all questions! Don’t be shy. When in doubt, ask. Post your questions in General Forum section (another student maybe thinking of the same question) or contact your instructor.

Teaching Sociology is very enjoyable for me. Sociology is like a gateway to a plethora of knowledge and understanding. The subject material is directly applicable to real-world events and situations found in everyday life. The methods and concepts of sociology yield powerful insights into the social processes shaping the contemporary world. The ability to identify and understand these processes is valuable preparation for professional participation in an ever changing and complex society.
