War on Drugs

Statistics show that the war on drugs in this country is failing. Billions in tax payer dollars are spent every year on enforcing the drug laws in this country. Illegal drugs such as marijuana, cocaine and heroin are easy to acquire and causes less deaths each year combined than the deaths attributed to tobacco products. The illegal drug trade funds terrorists, street gangs, rig elections and train evil corporate sponsored dictators around the world. By legalizing and regulating the current illegal drugs, we can save billions of dollars a year in taxes. Leaving billions left over that can go to lowering taxes, funding rehabilitation for drug users and programs that educate and promote healthy living.

Decriminalizing drugs will also lower crime, especially in poor areas. The street gangs prevalent in many inner cities will be left without funding from selling drugs, and lowering gang wars over turf to sell controlled substances. Many terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda, receive significant amounts of money from the opium trade.Legalizing controlled substances will significantly cut into their funding and subsequently reducing their power and ability to spread fear and violence.Despite what your stance or opinions are about illegal drugs, the fact is that the country and the world would be better off if controlled substances such as marijuana, cocaine and opiates are decriminalized.

Decriminalization of these drugs does by no means encourage their usage; it just takes the power away for criminals who profit from their sale. All of the illegal drugs can be regulated and sold in the same manner alcohol and tobacco is currently. The system is already in place and the benefits of decriminalization include decreased crime on various levels, lower taxes and fewer families torn apart from the current system of laws that increasingly discriminate rich from poor drug users.
